After receiving his degree in Botany in 1986, Ukrainian born, Alexander (Sasha) Vasiljev was hired to curate the largest orchid collection in Russia at the Main Botanical Gardens in Moscow. While there, he had the opportunity to study photography under the mentorship of distinguished landscape photographer, Boris Mashkov. Vasiljev’s own photographs were soon being published in various journals and magazines in Russia and the United States.

After immigrating to the United States in 1992 and subsequent travels throughout the United States, Central America, Europe, and Asia, Vasiljev further developed his visual direction. His award winning work includes portraiture, conceptual, nature and fine art.

He is currently represented by these galleries :
